- Received skates at age 8 with dreams of being a professional hockey player – “My grandmother aspired to be in the Ice Capades,” Lysacek said. “She bought us skates for Christmas, and my mother signed my older sister and me up for group lessons.”

After winning his bronze medal at the 2005 World Championships: “This is just totally motivating me to go home and work even harder for next season, the Olympic year,” Lysacek said to U.S. Figure Skating. “I know I have a ton of work to do but I learned so much here. Yeah, I’m psyched.”
